Planning under way for the 2010-2011 season. Will update site with dates as soon as I have them. Thank you to everyone who joined us this season and made it such a great success! Mike Reynolds funeral. Paul (his son) asked us to play in the George in the evening. Felt really privileged to be able to pay our respects to Mike in this way. Thank you Paul for asking us! The workshop yesterday went really well, there was some good stuff happening in the room. Thank you Johhny. It was great to meet so many new faces! Have just heard that Mike Reynolds, landlord of The George, Frocester died unexpectedly on Tuesday night. Incredibly sad news. We send his family and staff our condolences. Wow! what can one say about Kevin Dempsey apart from fantastic. Take 1 harp, 3 fiddles, 2 guitars, 1 mandolin, 1 melodeon and an accordian, add a good tune and Kevin. Result - a band playing a full performance arrangement of Bear Dance. Great news have confirmed today a workshop with Johnny Coppin, see Events page for details. Many thanks to the Rotary Club members for their kind response to our playing for them in The George last night. Their generosity has meant that we have been able to donate £25 to The British Heart Foundation What an amazing day we had yesterday, it was really good to see new faces and catch up with old friends. John Kirkpatrick is a fantastic leader, he created a very special atmosphere for us, educational, inspirational and great fun all at the same time. I'm delighted to be able to announce that JK has agreed to return next year, to look at music from 16th -18th century. I will let you know the date and more information as soon as I can. Meanwhile I am taking bookings for Kevin Dempsey in February. So come along and learn how to do more with the tunes you already play. The session move to the George at Frocester is working well. We're looking forward to the John Kirkpatrick workshop on Sunday. Have started planning next years workshops, will update site as soon as there is definite news. A wonderful workshop with Laurel Swift yesterday. We all worked hard, learnt a lot and laughed a lot. Working with Laurel is a great fun, especially when she puts her clogs on (see gallery). We had the added bonus of cake, thank you Judy. A good night at The George Inn in Frocester, good pub, good beer, good company. So how could the music not be good as well? Return visit next week 7th October. Went to see Morris - A Life with Bells On this afternoon. Great fun especially as there were two Morris side dancing outside the Electric Picture House in Wotton Under Edge between performances. Laurel Swift metioned in credits more times than I could keep up with! Choreographer and Double bass player to name just two. Quite a lady! There is still time to book your place on her workshop Session arranged this coming Wednesday 30th September at the George Inn at Frocester. Starting 8pm. All welcome We have had two very enjoyable garden sessions at the Old Crown in Uley. both afternoons dry and sunny, although today we did get a littlle chilly. Some would say we were either brave or stupid to even try and arrange anything outside in view of the general climatic conditions this summer. John Kirkpatrick booked for 29th November! John Kirkpatrick has just agreed to come to Dursley and run a mid-winter festival workshop. Details to come. Have just returned from an inspiring week long workshop in France. The leaders were Joe Broughton and Kevin Dempsey. We had wonderful weather, food and wine. Joe and Kevin work really well together and the culmination of the week was an evening gig and barbecue in the village of Bercloux in front of an audience which included the Mayor. Have been talking to Kevin about the possibilty of leading a workshop for us. He is a superb guitarist, with a very distinctive approach to playing traditional music. Laurel Swift is going to lead a workshop for us in October. We fisrt saw Laurel at Gosport Festival, where she was running the Festival Band. The results that Laurel achieved with some very nervous, inexperienced musicians was fantastic. So looking forward to 4th October. Booking started for Winter season of workshops. We were delighted to welcome Rod Stradling back after the success of the half day workshop last November. Rod as always provided an entertaining day, worked us hard and inspired us to go and practice those tunes. Highlight of the day had to be Rod's dancing demonstration, to prove that if you get the timing wrong you are likely to cause the dancers to fall over. |
